Digital Channel and the DTPR Data Chain

In addition to the taxonomy and visual language components, the DTPR standard also uses a digital channel to help bridge physical and digital spaces. This digital channel can become a dynamic hub that not only includes comprehensive information about the deployed technology but also establishes a direct avenue for individuals to engage with the information and provide feedback.
This digital channel features two key components: 1) The technology Data Chain, and 2) a feedback mechanism for residents to ask questions and learn more.
The following is a prototype image showcasing the essential elements of a digital channel. For those collaborating with Helpful Places, the HP proprietary platform is available to assist users in developing this digital channel.
The DTPR Data Chain, presented as a user-friendly drop-down list, is a hierarchical information model that uses the DTPR taxonomy to present detailed information about the technology to a person in a consistently structured way.
This hierarchical representation is carefully ordered to transition from an initial focus on the technology and device itself, to then focus on the nature of data collected, where and how that data is stored, and, crucially, who has access to this data.
Thought should also be given to the number or order of items within each category:
Accountable: Entities should be listed in the order of importance in relation to the technology. For example, for a technology deployed by a municipality, the municipality would be listed first, followed by the technology vendor.
Purpose: Purpose items should be listed in order of importance/relevance, up to a maximum of 3. Note that a technology may accomplish something without that being its main purpose. For example, a wireless security camera’s purpose is not Connectivity, even though it must support wireless connection in order to accomplish its purpose of Safety & Security.
Technology: Identifiable and De-identified items should be listed above other Technology items.
By incorporating the Data Chain within the DTPR digital channel, users are empowered with a transparent and structured means of understanding the technology's intricacies. This not only aligns with user expectations but also promotes a sense of accountability, providing individuals with the comprehensive information they seek in a clear and accessible format. The Data Chain, therefore, stands as a key element in fostering transparency, user comprehension, and informed decision-making within the evolving landscape of digital technologies in public spaces.
The digital channel's feedback feature is a crucial element, allowing users to share thoughts, feelings, and questions about technology deployment. This valuable feedback rapidly informs and improves the presented information.
Facilitating feedback is essential for transparency and trust. Users not only actively engage with information but may also influence future technologies to better meet human and community needs. Facilitating feedback is a necessary first step towards ongoing dialogue, collaboration, and the evolution of public space technology.
